It gives me great pleasure in preparing The Dewani Family Tree for you and your family. This tree was originally started and prepared by the FAZALS and updated in the early 1960s by my late father, Hussein Nasserali Fazal and again updated in the 1970s by the late Fazal (Baplo) Mohamedali Fazal. In order to update for the 1990s and now with the new millennium fast approaching, I have taken the approach of including as far as possible, the full names of spouses. I have also expanded and introduced various new branches to the tree.

Since the first distribution of the tree in February 1991, and again in June 1992, I have received a lot of suggestions from various individuals. There were very few responses from outside Canada. I am hoping to get good responses now that most of us have access to the Internet. I have incorporated a lot of new information received and corrected several errors which were pointed out to me. I have introduced an index of names, generation numbering and the repetition of full names before going into details of a particular branch. The Quick Reference Names Index has been prepared based on information that I have extracted from the various Islamic Shia Ithna Asheri Jamaats latest directories (in some cases the information may be obsolete by now) and from The World Federation web site. 

I would appreciate getting as much information as possible on the following areas:

 Spelling of names.

 Solving the unknown names e.g. "?????" areas.

 Any errors or omissions.

 Any nicknames not already noted or incorrectly noted. Nicknames have been used to facilitate identification of individuals. Therefore, if these names are offensive to any person, I would appreciate it being pointed out to me.

 Individual names of children are shown in the order of eldest first - e.g., if vertically shown, the first person from top would represent the eldest child and the last person at the bottom would represent the youngest in the family. If horizontally shown, the first person from the left would represent the eldest and the last on the right would represent the youngest in the family. If there are any errors in the order shown please correct me.

 I can include family photos with full details of persons disclosed clearly and year picture taken, etc. You could send me a scanned photograph as an email attachment or even mail to me the picture and I will be sure to scan and include on the appropriate web page of that family.

Any other suggestions or observations that would improve the presentation, details etc. would be most welcome. Please feel free to contact me by directly writing, emailing, faxing the information or even telephoning me for any changes or updating required - for example: addition of names due to marriages, births, deaths and any missing information, etc.

A very sincere thanks to my son Husain for in recent years, re-designing the pages and adding new features etc. Also my deepest and warmest thanks to my two helpful daughters - Samiha and Rozina. They both assisted me in the preparation and inputting some of the information and more importantly, with the technical aspects and the intricacies of designing the original web pages. It was invaluable in preparing this family tree.
